IRVINGTON SCHEDULES FORUM
ON HOMEBUYER EDUCATION AND FORECLOSURE PREVENTION
The Township of Irvington and Brand New Day community development corporation, which will construct 11 low- and moderate-income single family homes in Irvington later this year, are joining forces with leaders in the banking and mortgage industries to present a forum on homeownership opportunities and foreclosure prevention.
The free event is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 9:30 am to 12 noon at Waris Cultural Center, 62 Howard St., Irvington. It is being organized by the township's Office of Community Development, the agency responsible for first-time homebuyers' and home construction/renovation programs.
"We are dealing with timely issues that are of great significance to the economic well-being of individuals and the community at-large," Mayor Wayne Smith said. "This is a great opportunity, and we encourage everyone to come out and take advantage of these valuable resources," he added.
Topics and presenters for the forum include:

"For people at risk of foreclosure, the worst thing you can do is do nothing at all," according to Krishna Garlic, executive director of Brand New Day. "You can have all the resources (on refinancing and loan modification, for examples) at your fingertips." On the other hand, Garlic continued, the "foreclosure crisis" has created a buyers' market, leading to ample opportunities for those who fall in this category.
A continental breakfast will be served at the event. For more information, call the Irvington Office of Community Development & Planning at (973) 399-6657 or Brand New Day (908) 282-0781 ext. 101.
