IRVINGTON PLANS SIXTH ANNUAL UNITY DAY
The Sixth Annual Irvington Unity Day, an event created by Mayor Wayne Smith to promote community pride and solidarity, has been scheduled for Saturday, August 18, 2006 (raindate is Sunday, August 19).
Rhythm and blues star Donnell Jones and vocalist Carlton Blount of the Main Ingredient are the headliners of the free event to be held at Orange Avenue Park (behind Irvington High School) from noon to 6 pm. Other performers will include gospel and R&B sensation Kenny Bobien, positive hip-hop rappers Tex-N-Dee and jazz group No Way Live. There will be a featured performance by K.I.N.G.S. (Knowing I'm Never Gonna Stop), an R&B and hip-hop group whose noted performances include a tour with Jive Records singer Mario and the popular BET artists' showcase, 106 & Park with Ciara.
Senior citizens will be treated to a catered luncheon, music and assorted activities under a tent, while children can enjoy carnival rides, inflatable play equipment, clown performances, games and free painting. The municipal pool will be open and barbecued
food will be served.
