IRVINGTON CELEBRATES
CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT MONTH

The Township of Irvington has teamed up with an area agency in recognition of National Child Support Month, which is celebrated each August.

Child Support Solutions, LLC of Montclair has helped parents collect over $9 million in past due child support and enabled others to receive fair, appropriate child support orders. Approximately 18 million children nationwide are owed child support.

To increase awareness of the issue, an art contest was held for the 6 to 12-year-old participants in Irvington's Summer Activities Program, with the theme: "How my Dreams can be Fulfilled with Financial Support." Dozens of children entered the contest, and three winners were selected, as follows:

1st place: Qariah Lucas, 11, Union Avenue Middle School, 6th grade
(2007-2008)
2nd place: Shamain McAllister, 10, Berkeley Terrace School,
6th grade (2007-2008)
3rd place: Jada Lewis, 11, Berkeley Terrace School, 5th grade (2007-2008)

The winners were presented with prizes during a ceremony held on August 7; the prizes were as follows:

1st place: IPOD Shuffle and Back-to-School gift card from Staples
2nd place: Summer Movie Family Four Pack with popcorn/drinks and
Back-to-School gift card from Staples
3rd place: Webkins and Back-to-School gift card from Staples

Mayor Wayne Smith will receive a proclamation from the Office of the Governor for his advocacy efforts. "While there's no doubt that children have a right to financial assistance, child support is more than money," the mayor said. "Children need the love and support of both parents, and we applaud those who are committed and make a difference," he continued.

The ceremony was preceded by a seminar on child support, which was facilitated by Simone Spence, president of Child Support Solutions; and hosted by the Irvington Family Development Center. "We provide the tools that empower parents to navigate the system and retrieve what their children need and deserve," Spence said.

Child Support Solutions provides a complete child support management program; in addition to the core service of collecting financial payments, the agency helps clients locate absent parents and establish paternity, among other services.
