The Township of Irvington Clean Communities Council is holding a cleanup along the Irvington/Newark gateways on Thursday, October 5, 2006.
After gathering at Town Hall at 8:30 am, volunteer crews will be sent to Grove and 17 th streets and to 20 th Avenue and Standard Place. In addition, members of the Sigma Beta student fraternity at Chancellor Avenue School and the group’s advisor, DeMarkus Taylor, a fifth-grade teacher, will be working with Maria Carrion, a third VP for Investors Savings Bank in Irvington, and other volunteers to clean up Chancellor Park.
Lunch for the gateway cleanup is being provided by Burger King. Prizes and certificates for the event will be awarded to all participants during the township’s annual celebration of Make A Difference Day, being held on Saturday, October 28 at Town Hall, starting at 9:30 am.
In other news, the Essex County Environmental Center in Roseland presents Octoberfest, Saturday, October 7 from 11 am to 4 pm, rain or shine. Activities will include nature walks, plantings, pumpkin painting, face painting, music and refreshments. A bus will leave Irvington Town Hall at 11 am.
