Craig Garner is a 25-year resident and was appointed as the Poet Laureate for the Township of Irvington by Mayor Wayne Smith on January 1, 2005. He has been writing poetry for 20 years, and to date, has self-published four books: Rhymes for Reasons I and II, which are dedicated to the accomplishments of noted figures in African American history; A Poetic Twist of Fate, which implores African Americans to join the technological revolution; and A Poetic Quest of Faith, dedicated to the exploration of ancestral spiritual and cultural values. A review by Amazon.com praises “his unique ability to blend rhyme and storytelling…caresses the reader’s eye while providing thought provoking concepts.” Craig is the recipient of numerous awards for his work, and in August 2005, was the featured writer for the “Meet the Author” event at Barnes & Noble in Springfield. Craig will serve as Poet Laureate until June 30, 2006. |
