INIC was established in 1989 as the designated municipal agency for the provision of resources and referral services to guide disadvantaged Irvington residents along the path of self-sufficiency. The agency operates a soup kitchen that serves about 150 meals daily, Mondays through Fridays. Its Housing Opportunities Program for People with Aids (HOPWA) subsidizes rental payments and provides various social services for 25 families facing the medical affliction, while the Transitional Housing Program similarly assists an additional 19 families.

Other major services are as follows:

  • emergency shelter/rental assistance
  • case management
  • utility assistance
  • emergency food pantry
  • clothing
  • holiday food and toy baskets
  •

Referrals and resources are also directed toward, but not limited to:

  • drug/alcohol addiction treatment
  • educational services
  • medical treatment
  • food pantry
  • legal aid
  • counseling
  • job training
  •

The agency receives funding from the County of Essex and HUD and maintains an extensive network of local, county, state and federal resources for the efficient, capable execution of its mission.
