Dear Mayor Smith:

Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to meet with the students and staff from the Seton Hall University Upward Bound Program. The staff from the Urban Enterprise Zone was extremely helpful in arranging the walking tour. We wish to thank them also. On the students’ written evaluations of the the tour, they highly praised it and some even requested a return visit. The tour was both informative and enriching.

From the moment we first sat in the Council Chamber, we knew that you had prepared well for our visit. Everywhere we went, staff members were warm, cordial and helpful. We had no idea that we would have a police escort or that Ms. Jacqueline Andrews from Public Relations would spend her morning with us. The students enjoyed touring the township offices as well as the Police Department and the Fire Department. Students wrote that they now have a better idea bout how the government works.

The time spent with you at the beginning of the tour was just what the students needed to understand the challenges you face as mayor. You were patient with sensitive questions and well-informed about the township you lead. We commend your energy, enthusiasm and dedication to making Irvington a place to be proud of.

Our only regret is that we did not allow more time for the walking tour. Had we known that you and your staff were going to be so thorough, perhaps we could have scheduled a longer time. Thank you again for the gracious introduction to Irvington. The visit was one we will not easily forget.
