Mayor Wayne Smith, second from left, joins other local and state officials at the
demolition ceremony for the former Pabst Brewery. The site will be reconstructed
as a $33 million commercial and residential complex and is expected to
catalyze redevelopmentin the East Ward of Irvington,
which claims one-fifth of the 10-acre property.
